New categories Youth A and Youth B replace Middle!

The Century Christmas Volleyball Tournament knows its start as a volleyball tournament for secondary / high schools and universities. A few years ago higher division club teams were allowed to register for the Higher I and Higher II category. The category Middle was the last category which was only accessible for secondary and high schools. Every year the organisation got requests from youth club teams to participate in the Century Christmas Volleyball Tournament. Due to these requests and the lack of participation of secondary and high schools the organisation has decided to replace the category Middle through the categories Youth A and Youth B.

The 59th Century Christmas Volleyball Tournament is the ideal preparation for the second half of the season for your (youth) club team. Your team will play a minimum of 7 matches against (inter)national top teams. It’s not only a great volleyball-experience, but also the terrific tournament for your team spirit!

A short description of the tournament

HThe Christmas Volleyball Tournament takes place in Assen, every year between Christmas and New Year. In the past, a lot of international players, for example Ron Zwerver, Ronald Zoodsma and Riette Flederus (who are all Dutch national team players), took part in this tournament.

From the humble beginning in 1949 to now, the Century CVT has developed into a tournament of about 90 teams, with a total of 900 players. The teams can register in eight different categories, divided by gender and level. The first two days the teams will play the qualifying rounds: the results will lead to the finals on the last day of the tournament, in a sports hall packed with spectators. It's a great and spectacular ending to a three day spanning volleyball event.

The matches are played in four different sports halls, with a total of 14 courts. The whole day, busses will be driving between the sports halls, host families and Penta to transport the participants.

The night following the finals, there will be a big final party that will be attended by about 1700 people. A famous DJ and a great band will take care of the music.

During the tournament, the teams can spend the night with (a limited number of) host families or at a school, Penta. In Penta teams can spend the night and eat breakfast for a small fee. At night, the Penta bar is open so you can have something to eat and to drink. The organising committee of the Century CVT, consisting of 13 persons, also spends the night in Penta.

During the tournament there will be more than 300 additional volunteers to help out. This alone means efficiently organising an event like this can be a difficult job.

We hope you will be there with us this year!
